Historic Alexandria Celebrates Women’s History Month with Inspiring Events

March is Women’s History Month, and the Office of Historic Alexandria invites the community to celebrate the pioneering women who helped shape our city. From specialty tours to engaging lectures, this month-long celebration will highlight the often-overlooked contributions of women throughout history. In collaboration with Alexandria Library, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, and other organizations, Historic Alexandria is hosting a variety of events that honor women’s achievements. Event Highlights
Sew and Tell: A Trunk Show presented by the Uhuru Quilters Guild
Saturday, March 22 | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Alexandria Black History Museum, 902 Wythe Street

Experience the artistry and storytelling of African American quilting with the Uhuru Quilters Guild. This engaging event will showcase intricate quilt designs and highlight the creative process behind them.
Women’s History Walk

Discover the influential women who helped shape Alexandria and the nation. As part of America’s 250th anniversary, Alexandria Celebrates Women (ACW) will host monthly Women’s History Walks from March through October. This three-mile guided tour takes participants through the city’s rich history of female leadership and contributions. Comfortable walking shoes and water are recommended.
