City of Alexandria to Begin Construction on Sanitary Sewer Construction Project – March 2025
Construction on the sanitary sewer improvement project, located on the 300 and 400 blocks of North Alfred Street in Old Town, is scheduled to begin the second week of March 2025. The work includes replacing sewer pipes and installing new manholes along the west side of North Alfred Street between Queen Street and Oronoco Street.
Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 10 through Tuesday, July 8, weather permitting. Construction work is permitted Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The work will take place in a series of segmented work zones to minimize disruptions to residents and businesses. During construction hours, sidewalks will remain open, but lane and/or intersection closures will be required. The east lane of North Alfred Street will remain open to vehicles. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic and to facilitate safe access to homes and driveways. Parking will be restricted on the western side of North Alfred Street in the work zones during construction hours. Temporary No Parking signs will be posted prior to the start of construction. Please obey all parking restriction dates and times, as posted. Excavated areas of the work zone will be covered with secured heavy metal plates and reopened to traffic outside construction hours.
